Es ist genau das, was der Titel sagt: Eine Art Kurs, wie man selbst Kleidung in verschiedenen Stricktechniken für die Strickmaschine entwirft, ergänzt durch 24 komplette Anleitungen, die zum jeweiligen Kapitel passen. Es geht los mit eher allgemeinen Hinweisen, z.B. zu Garnen, Schnittdetails und Farben, darauf folgen dann aufeinander aufbauende Kapitel zu einzelnen Stricktechniken: Streifen, Jacquard, Fangmuster, Webmuster, Intarsien, Lochmuster und Muster mit Handauswahl. Die gezeigten Modelle entsprechen natürlich nicht mehr der aktuellen Mode, aber sie sind dennoch gute Beispiele für den kreativen Einsatz der möglichen Stricktechniken, und sie machen Mut, selbst zu entwerfen.

Many knitters review new knitting books, but if you are in search of information about older books, and perhaps about machine knitting, information is scarce. So I will try to fill this gap. As I have sorted my books by author, I start at top left of my book case with John Allen. He is British and wrote several books. One of them is “The Machine Knitting Book - How to design and create beautiful garments on your knitting machine” dating back to 1985. It is just what the title says: A kind of training for designing garments using different techniques on the knitting machine, complimented by 24 instructions for garments matching each chapter. Starting with general information about yarns, styling and colours, the following chapters build upon each other and deal with stripes, jacquard, tuck stitch, weaving, intarsia, lace and hand-tooled patterning. Of course the garmens shown are long since out of date, but they are very good examples how to creatively use the possible knitting techniques, and they encourage the reader to have a go on designing.
The book has 128 pages and was published by Dorling Kindersley, London. Its original price was £ 9.95.
