Although this book was published almost twenty years ago, its contents is still helpful and useful. In twelve chapters and a “Looking Back” summary, Betty Bailey offers a true training course for the ribbing attachment. The chapters are built upon each others, and for each chapter there are instructions for a garment. Starting with a child's pixie hood in ribbing, Bailey continues with Fisherman's rib, English rib, 2 by 2 ribbing with different needle arrangements and fully-fashioned shaping, pockets and buttons in rib, circular knitting, full needle rib, shaping by tension change and to top it all, a saddle shoulder jacket in English rib with collar and pockets in racked English rib. All garments are shown in full colour. They are plain and timeless and can be modified easily without problems. All instructions have diagrams and measurements, and stitches and rows numbers are given. In addition, each step is illustrated by photographs and diagrams.
If you work your way through the book and knit all garments, you will never again be scared by the ribbing attachment. You will be able to tackle almost every knitting challenge. For those who still are a bit afraid of their ribbing attachment, this book is a great help, even if knitting machine experts may not find many new things.
